On April 25, 2014, The Foundation will host our ninth annual “Cakes for a Cause” community event and cake auction.

How does this cake auction work? It’s simple! Local individuals, businesses or not-for-profit organizations provide a cake for the event, with an incentive that will convince people to bid. The cakes will be put on display at the Miami Valley Centre Mall on Thursday, April 24, for the community to admire. On Friday, the cakes will be auctioned in groups from 12 noon until 5 PM, with bids accepted by phone or in person at the mall. All proceeds go to the grant-making fund of The Piqua Community Foundation, which provides grants to many local non-profit organizations each year. Annually, approximately $80,000 is given back to the community through this fund.

This year’s theme – Under the Big Top – is sure to bring in many creative designs. The cakes are sure to be beautiful and delicious, but the incentives are even better! We will have prime seats to see the Cincinnati Reds, Dayton Dragons, performances at the Schuster Center, passes to the Boonshoft Museum, the Piqua Swimming Pool and others. We’ll have lots of great gift certificates for local goods and services, including having your garden mulch spread and yard work done. If you are the high bidder on any cake, you will receive the accompanying incentive as well.

Soon we will have a complete list of cakes and incentives posted on this site. We encourage you to call in a bid at 937-778-3422 on the day of the auction. You can listen to the event on WPTW Radio (98.1 FM or 1570 AM), stream online at, or watch the event live on Piqua’s Channel 5 WOTVC. All cakes must be purchased (by cash, check or credit card) and picked up at the Miami Valley Centre Mall by 5:30 PM on Friday, April 25.

If you can’t wait to see the cakes this year, you may view last year’s cakes by clicking on the link above. Last year’s theme was “It’s a Small World.”
