"Time is the coin of your life. It is the only coin you have, and only you can determine how it will be spent." – Carl Sandburg

I have been thinking a lot about time lately. Our recent “Cakes for A Cause” theme was Rock Around The Clock and a number of the cakes featured clocks; those clocks reminded me of all the time that people in our community put into our annual cake auction. Hours are spent planning cakes, deciding on themes and ordering the cakes. More hours are used baking and decorating the cakes and delivering and staging them at the Miami Valley Centre. Our volunteers spend hours doing set-up, taking photos, tagging cakes with the correct information cards and coordinating the incentives that accompany the cakes. Of course, there are hours – five hours to be exact – of live broadcast with professional and volunteer radio hosts. And hours of phone answering, calling high bidders, collecting payments, helping to load cakes into cars and then hours of clean up afterward. Many of our incentives even take time – Young Life teens will spend hours mulching someone’s yard, Arabella and Glamour on Mane staff will give bidders salon experiences, and several bidders will receive hour-long massages. Those who received tickets as their incentives will enjoy hours of entertainment … and the list goes on!

We truly appreciate all the time spent by donors, bakers and volunteers in order to make our seventh great cake auction a rousing success. If you missed the cakes, or just want a second look, click the link above to see this year’s cakes with the names of their bakers and donors. Stories about the event and our volunteers will be found on our “news” page. We think all of these folks can consider their time has been well spent!

As always, feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, or concerns.
