PERSPECTIVE, Fall 2007•

Every private citizen has a public responsibility.
-Myra Janco Daniels

How many positive things have happened in Piqua because private citizens took it upon themselves to help the “public”? Take a quick look at the list of organizations receiving grants from The Piqua Community Foundation this fall; almost all of them were started by private citizens who acted responsibly to make Piqua a better place.

The Foundation Center, America’s leading authority on philanthropy, recently revealed that gifts received by community foundations in the U.S.A. hit a record level of $5.6 billion in 2005. The total is up 45 % over 2004. Many private citizens are taking seriously their responsibility to financially support charitable organizations; and they are using community foundations to make those gifts. Because of those contributions, the 707 community foundations in America gave an estimated $3.6 billion dollars in grants last year, exceeding all independent and corporate foundations in total dollars granted.

Through community foundations, Americans continue to support and enrich their favorite charitable organizations, and so support and enrich the lives of their fellow citizens and themselves. We hope you find it reassuring to know that The Piqua Community Foundation exists to support those residing in and around Piqua, whether through scholarships, grants or special projects like the hotel/library restoration. We invite you to contact us with any questions about the ways we can work together to provide that support.

Did you know our Foundation has a monthly program on television? The Piqua Community Foundation’s informational program, “Community Foundation Focus”, is broadcast on Access Piqua Television Association’s channel 5 during the fourth week of each month. Tune in to find out current happenings and information regarding funds, grants, and more. Check the City of Piqua website, www.piquaoh.org, for the TV5 broadcast schedule
