RESTORING PIQUA’S TREASURE

Anyone who has ventured near The Piqua Community Foundation’s office since December of 2006 will have seen the visible evidence of The Foundation’s newest fund – the Hotel/Library Fund – and seen the impact of that fund on downtown Piqua’s revitalization.

Exterior restoration of the Fort Piqua Hotel building has caused quite a stir in the block containing The Community Foundation office. Interested citizens and visitors can be spotted watching the renovation efforts on an almost daily basis. As the brickwork and stonework are cleaned, repaired and restored, the neighborhood is being blanketed with a layer of dust – but also with a layer of excitement and an eagerness to see the project completed in all its glory.

The Piqua Community Foundation is proud to be working with the City of Piqua and the Hotel/Library Legacy Alliance to help bring the old Fort Piqua Hotel back to life. As the collector of donations being made to the project, The Foundation is accepting one-time gifts and pledges for gifts to be made over three to five years. Cash, checks and gifts of securities have been donated by local area residents, as well as by supporters of the project who live as far away as California and England. Unlike The Foundation’s endowment funds, the Hotel/Library Fund is intended to be spent down, with every contribution being used to defray the cost of the building project. When completed, the former hotel building will be used for Piqua’s public library, a meeting and banquet facility, a restaurant and retail space.

Members of the Hotel/Library Legacy Alliance are making contact with as many potential supporters as possible, so everyone with an interest Piqua’s future can take part in making this monumental project a reality.
